Taiwan Reports 527 Injuries as Typhoon Champi Turns North

Taiwan’s fire department kept the reported death toll at one as Champi’s forecast track turned north toward the Chinese coast.

Taiwan’s fire department reported 527 injuries from Typhoon Champi and said the death toll remained one, with the fatality a man swept away by waves from Liuqiu Island during heavy wind and torrential rain [E2].

Champi’s forecast track showed the storm turning north toward the Chinese coast and eventually moving into southern Japan [E1].

A Friday update from Taiwan’s Central Emergency Operations Center had recorded 94 injured [E3]. The paper last covered Typhoon Bavi in July; the current report concerns Typhoon Champi [E4][E2].
