Regional authorities put the La Mierla wildfire at roughly 32,000 hectares on Wednesday and moved the operation into a stabilization phase. Residents of several evacuated villages were allowed to begin returning, although officials warned that Thursday’s winds could complicate the line again. [E1]

The government advanced its national campaign to 1 June after the first 15 weeks of the year produced 127 reported fires, more than three times the previous year’s count for the same period.
