An Iraqi border official said on Wednesday that Iraq had closed the busy Sheeb crossing with Iran to review security and install detection equipment aimed at stopping smuggling of prohibited materials. [E1]

The closure covers passengers, vehicles and commercial trucks and remains in force until further notice, sources at the crossing said; Reuters reported the same restriction. [E2] [E4]

An Iraqi border crossings official told Reuters that Sheeb’s security measures were weak and inadequate. [E3]

Arab News reported that Sheeb is one of the main entry points for goods and travelers between Iraq and Iran. [E5]

What has changed since the paper’s 12 September coverage is the named crossing: that earlier Record reported that Iraq ordered Shalamcheh closed, while Wednesday’s account names Sheeb as a separate crossing. [E6]
