A bipartisan group of senators on Tuesday urged President Donald Trump to withdraw from his diesel deal with Russian President Vladimir Putin and rescind a move to waive sanctions on Russia's energy sector, CBS News reported. [E5] The letter told the President to "Withdraw from this agreement, rescind General License No. 135, and execute the authorities provided under the Lindsey O. Graham Sanctioning Russia and Iran Act of 2026." [E3] The senators' press release names twelve signatories, each with a party label. [E7]
Granting Moscow the ability to sell Russian diesel freely in global markets "damages American security interests and is a betrayal of the people of Ukraine, who continue to defend themselves from Putin’s murderous, illegal war," the senators wrote. [E1] "This deal is a gift to our adversary and a betrayal of our Allies," they wrote. [E2] Axios reported the letter admonished President Trump's deal to lift sanctions on Russia to increase diesel supplies. [E4]
Treasury announced Friday that it would temporarily waive sanctions on Russia's energy sector to "allow the supply of Russian diesel to the global market," CBS News reported, a waiver this paper recorded on 13 October. [E6] Tuesday's Senate letter is the change since. No White House reply has been published.
