Shahed on Kyiv Housing Runs Independently of the Energy Halt ============================================================ Kicker: Darnytskyi Deck: A Shahed hit a 25-storey residential building in Kyiv, Ukraine, on the evening of 12 October, killing two and injuring at least nine. Attacks in other Ukrainian regions killed at least six people, officials said, Internazionale reported [E6]. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, writing on Telegram, placed the evening strike on the 25-story residence in the Darnitskyi district, Internazionale reported [E7]. Zelenskyy said nine people were injured in the incident, Internazionale reported [E9]. The drone hit a 25-storey apartment building in the capital's Darnytskyi district between the 12th and 16th floors, Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko initially reported at 7:19 p.m. local time, Kyiv Post reported [E2]. Klitschko later explained that the drone hit the building between the 12th and 16th floors, RBC-Ukraine reported [E10]. Three of the injured were hospitalized, Klitschko said, Kyiv Post reported [E3]. Prosecutors said one body was found in a car next to the building, Internazionale reported [E8]. As of 9:00 p.m., the death of a 59-year-old woman had been confirmed, Glavnoe reported [E12]. Glavnoe reported at least seven others injured in a Russian attack on Kyiv on the evening of 12 October [E11]. The outlets disagree on the injury count. President Donald Trump of the United States said: "Effective immediately, there is an ENERGY CEASEFIRE in the War between Russia and Ukraine. Both parties have agreed. Do not break it!" the Guardian reported [E14]. "It is Russia that continues these brutal strikes. It is Russia that is prolonging the war. Even now, in response to the American proposal, it is sending Shahed drones," Zelenskyy said, Kyiv Post reported [E4]. "We hope the United States will recognize these signals from Russia and act decisively. Strength is needed to force Russia to end this war," he concluded, Kyiv Post reported [E5]. A pre-trial investigation has been launched under Part 2 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — a war crime committed by Russian servicemen, Glavnoe reported [E13]. Since this paper's 12 October file that Trump's energy ceasefire was a post the plants had not joined, the new fact is a Shahed on an occupied residence in Kyiv. **The desk's reading.** The energy-ceasefire post described plants. Monday evening's Shahed hit occupied housing in a Kyiv block. The civilian clock is running independently of whether energy sites went quiet. Zelenskyy treated continued Shahed flights as a response to the American proposal and as a signal to Washington. A war-crime file was opened on Russian servicemen. The competing reading is that the American proposal was written only for plants, so a housing strike sits outside its terms and leaves any energy test untouched. **The next test.** Nothing yet would come out differently under the two readings. The two readings stay unseparated. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ THE RECORD — cite these source_ids, not this mirror. refs: E1 | E2 | E3 | E4 | E5 | E6 | E7 | E8 | E9 | E10 | E11 | E12 | E13 | E14 • kyivpost.com (2026-10-12) "Russian forces struck a residential high-rise in Kyiv with a Shahed drone on Monday, Oct. 12, killing two people and injuring at least nine, according to local authorities." https://www.kyivpost.com/post/86856 [public_url] • kyivpost.com (2026-10-12) "The drone hit a 25-story apartment building in the capital’s Darnytskyi district between the 12th and 16th floors, Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko initially reported at 7:19 p.m. local time." https://www.kyivpost.com/post/86856 [public_url] • kyivpost.com (2026-10-12) "Three of the injured were hospitalized, Klitschko said." https://www.kyivpost.com/post/86856 [public_url] • kyivpost.com (2026-10-12) "“It is Russia that continues these brutal strikes.
