Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo said air traffic controllers told him a military aircraft with tail number NGR 931, flying from Benin to Lagos, disappeared at 09:13 local time (08:13 GMT), and that all efforts to raise it on radio failed. [E4][E10] He said the aircraft had crashed close to the naval base in Igbokoda, Ondo State, and that the wreckage had been located. [E2][E11]
The Nigerian Air Force said the plane was an ATR-42 on a routine mission from Benin, in Edo State, to Lagos when the accident occurred on 5 October, and confirmed that the crashed aircraft belonged to the service. [E5][E8][E7] Search and rescue is ongoing in the Igbokoda area after the military aircraft, carrying 32 people, crashed in Ondo in the country's southwest. [E9][E1][E7][E11]
Keyamo said preliminary information indicated that 25 passengers and seven crew members were on board. [E3] Authorities have not confirmed any casualties, and it was not immediately clear how badly the aircraft was damaged. [E6][E12]
