Joint Task Force Western Hemisphere, acting under the direction of US Southern Command, executed a lethal strike on 4 October against a go-fast vessel on what the command called established narco-trafficking routes in the Caribbean and said the operation killed four people it called narco-terrorists. [E1][E3]
Southern Command said confirmed intelligence revealed the vessel's active involvement in narco-trafficking. [E2] The military did not provide evidence that the vessel was ferrying drugs. [E6]
A video posted on X showed what appeared to be an explosion destroying a moving boat, which the military said was a go-fast vessel. [E7]
President Donald Trump has said the United States is in "armed conflict". [E8] The administration continues a yearlong campaign against alleged traffickers in Latin America, a series of attacks Washington says target narco-terrorists. [E4][E9]
The latest attack brings the number of people killed in boat strikes by the US military to at least 235 in 70 strikes since the administration began targeting those it calls narcoterrorists. [E5]
