[E1][E2][E7][E8] The Ministry of National Education reported that at least 400 of the 3,700 high schools in France were closed on Friday, while 560 faced protests or disruptions. [E5] Geffray said 24 schools had been “burned or ransacked” since the protests began, and that at least 170 students and 78 educational personnel have been injured since the student demos first erupted in the Paris region in mid-September. [E3][E4][E9] According to the interior minister, more than 5,000 people have been arrested in the last week, 85% of them minors. [E6] Clashes with riot police left hundreds of people injured and jolted President Emmanuel Macron’s centrist administration. [E10] There was a lull at the weekend, but protest organisers called for renewed demonstrations on Tuesday because the government had failed to produce “concrete measures”.
