Venezuela Frees More Than Three Dozen After Washington-Backed Talks

Al Jazeera records more than three dozen political prisoners released after a second round of U.S.-backed talks. Rights groups told The Korea Herald Saturday's tally is still not determined.

Venezuela has released more than three dozen political prisoners after a second round of talks, backed by Washington, between the country's interim government and the opposition, Al Jazeera reported on 27 September. [E1] That is the captured count: more than three dozen, not a named roster, and not an official Caracas communiqué.

Human rights groups in Venezuela said significant numbers of political prisoners were released on Saturday, though the total number of those freed has still not been determined, The Korea Herald reported. [E2] The two pages agree that weekend releases occurred; they do not agree on a closed tally, and they do not say how many remain detained.
