Mecklenburg-Vorpommern's Landeswahlleitung put Alternative for Germany at 38.2 percent and 32 seats and the Social Democrats at 35.5 percent and 29 seats after Sunday's Landtag vote [E4]. The Christian Democratic Union finished at 4.9 percent and failed the five-percent hurdle [E4].

Zeit, citing that returning officer, reports AfD more than doubled its result of five years earlier [E1] and that the CDU, at 4.9 percent, remains under the Sperrklausel and leaves a Landtag for the first time [E3].

Berlin's returning officer, in a provisional result stamped 21 September 2026 at 03:33:56, put Die Linke at 25.7 percent, the CDU at 18.8 percent and AfD at 16.3 percent [E5].

Chancellor Friedrich Merz called the outcome a "disaster" [E2]. AfD is first in Schwerin with no partner named on this record; the CDU has no members in that chamber to bargain with.
