Perhaps the dwelling exists only in the arrangement. Five institutions doing five different jobs will produce five different kinds of statement, and setting them side by side may supply the whole resemblance.
The waiting would remain. A worker still needs to know whether there will be another shift. A family still needs a name. People must make decisions about water and fire before every relevant question can be answered. The distinction between what is known and what remains open matters because someone has to arrange a life around it.
The public verbs are brief. Living through them takes the rest of the day.
