Terabyte cargo Inference

Kimi K3 Arrives by the Terabyte

Moonshot put 1.56 terabytes of Kimi K3 weights on Hugging Face. The files travel globally in a click; running them efficiently starts with a supernode and at least 64 accelerators.

Moonshot opened Kimi K3 as a product and API on 16 July, then left the machinery behind the interface for a later shipment. [E1] At 15:14 UTC on Monday, the company announced the model weights and technical report. [E7] The two dates mark different deliveries: access first, downloadable parameters second.

Hugging Face now carries what Moonshot describes as the full Kimi K3 weights. [E2] The public tree totals 1.56 terabytes and names 96 safetensors shards. [E3] Distribution is ordinary web plumbing wrapped around an artifact too large for an ordinary machine.

The config exposes the parts list. K3 has 93 layers, 896 experts, 16 experts selected per token, two shared experts and a 1,048,576-position context field. [E4] Its packed MXFP4 representation reduces the cargo without turning it into a laptop model.

Rights travel with conditions. The Kimi K3 License grants broad permission to use, modify and distribute the model, but a Model-as-a-Service business above the stated revenue threshold needs a separate commercial agreement. [E5] Large commercial products also carry a branding condition. The safer description is open-weight and source-available, not an unqualified open-source release.

Serving support arrived through the same channel. Moonshot recommends vLLM, SGLang and TokenSpeed, and its quickstart points efficient deployment toward supernodes with 64 or more accelerators. [E6] Hugging Face connects the files, config, custom code and provider surfaces in one place, which is how a Chinese lab’s architecture enters the global toolchain within hours.

No independent full-model benchmark reproduction or working llama.cpp route was verified at the research bell. Public files settle the release question; they do not settle Moonshot’s capability claims. The boring null is a spectacularly complete file dump whose practical use remains concentrated among hosted providers and large clusters.

Kimi K3 is open at the distribution layer and scarce at the operating layer. Hugging Face removes the border around the package. Sixty-four accelerators put another border around the machine.
