Confirmed deaths from the 24 June twin earthquakes have climbed sharply since this paper's 29 June edition carried an official count above 1,450, with Venezuelan authorities now listing 1,719 fatalities and some independent agency tallies approaching 1,943 as hospital records and collapsed districts continue to be cleared [E1][E2].
Government figures updated through 29 June counted 5,034 people injured and more than 15,866 displaced, while assessments listed almost 800 buildings badly damaged along the Caracas–La Guaira corridor that bore the heaviest shaking [E3][E4].
A magnitude-4.6 aftershock early on 29 June rattled Caracas and the devastated port of La Guaira, sending residents who had returned indoors racing back into the streets and briefly halting rubble searches at collapsed apartment blocks [E5].
